PHEASANT PUR CHASSE®

Our exclusive PUR CHASSE® bloodline is the result of decades of rigorous genetic selection. Unlike intensively farmed pheasants, the PUR CHASSE® pheasant comes from natural breeding in aviaries — natural mating, natural incubation. Raised in large planted aviaries of over 10,000 m², fed on insects and grain grown on the farm, and regularly flushed by gun dogs, it develops from a young age the natural reflexes essential for hunting: explosive takeoff, sustained flight and the ability to hold cover.

Natural reproduction
Natural mating and brooding in aviaries — no artificial insemination, no mechanical incubation. Parental behaviour is preserved.
10,000 m² aviaries
Raised in large planted aviaries of over one hectare, with dense natural cover enabling flight muscle development.
Insects & grain diet
Rich and natural diet: live insects and grain grown on the GIBIS farm in Chatte.
Gun dog flushing
Pheasants are regularly flushed by trained gun dogs, developing the flight instinct and nervousness characteristic of wild game.
Powerful sustained flight
Selected over several generations for an explosive takeoff and fast, sustained, high-altitude flight.
Registered trademark PUR CHASSE®
GIBIS exclusive. This trademark guarantees a carefully selected bloodline, the fruit of decades of genetic work to produce the ultimate hunting pheasant.

Chinese-type pheasants

The Chinese-type pheasant, recognisable by its white collar and more colourful plumage, is a slightly smaller but particularly lively and nervous bird. Its fast, unpredictable flight makes it a favourite with demanding hunters. It adapts remarkably well to hilly terrain and woodland.

Natural nervousness
A lively, reactive bird offering spectacular flushes particularly appreciated in walked-up shooting.
Size
Lighter bird (cocks 1.1 to 1.4 kg), compensated by superior flight speed.
Terrain adaptation
Excellent ability to hold in dense cover, ideal for rough and wooded ground.
Distinctive plumage
Characteristic white collar and shimmering plumage with golden and green highlights.

Dark pheasant

The dark pheasant (melanistic pheasant) is distinguished by its dark plumage with metallic blue-green highlights. More discreet than the common pheasant in vegetation, it is particularly appreciated in driven and walked-up shoots for its nervous behaviour and fast flight. GIBIS raises its dark pheasants in planted aviaries allowing flight muscle development and natural instinct expression.

Dark plumage
Melanistic plumage with metallic blue-green highlights, more discreet in the natural environment than the common pheasant.
Nervous flight
A lively, reactive bird with fast, unpredictable flight particularly appreciated in shooting.
Cross-breeding
Can be crossed with common pheasants to produce birds combining hardiness and nervousness.
Availability
Available from 14 weeks, to order. Dark breeding stock also offered.

How to order from GIBIS

Hunting pheasants for sale: quantities, lead times, collection and delivery

At GIBIS, a hunting pheasant is ordered by telephone on 04 76 38 31 01 or by e-mail to gibis@gibis.fr: there is no online basket, because a batch of live birds always comes down to three parameters — the strain, the age at release and the delivery date — and those are settled in a two-minute conversation. You tell us the size of your ground, the type of shooting (driven, walked-up, summer restocking) and your timetable; we send you a costed quotation, transport included.Minimum quantity. There is no minimum order in the strict sense: an individual coming to collect a few birds at the farm is served just like a hunting association taking 300 poults. Delivery to your ground, however, only makes economic sense from a few dozen birds upwards, or by joining a round already scheduled; below that, collection at Chatte remains the most attractive option. It is also from 50 birds upwards that the sliding scale above starts to apply.Lead times. Summer poults (14 weeks) are booked in the spring, ideally before the end of May, for delivery from June to August. Adult pheasants ready to release are booked at least three to four weeks before the release date you want, and much earlier for large opening-day volumes or for the PUR CHASSE® strain, which is produced in limited numbers. Our lead times are indicative and run from receipt of your written order.Deposit and firm order. An order becomes firm on receipt of your written instruction — by post or e-mail — together with a deposit of 30 % of the gross amount, in accordance with our terms and conditions of sale. It is that deposit that secures your birds, your age class and your delivery slot. The balance is settled on delivery or collection.Collection at Chatte or delivery. Prices are ex-farm, 249 route de Lyon, 38160 Chatte (Isère), Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. by appointment: bring a vehicle and crates suitable for carrying live birds, or borrow ours (crates against a deposit, to be returned). Otherwise we deliver in our own fitted vehicles, carriage extra, with a live arrival guarantee. Every batch travels with its health certificate and an invoice stating the provenance — the two documents your federation or the DDT may ask for to justify a release, as explained on our small game regulations page. Before your birds arrive, prepare the ground: our guide to achieving a successful release and our feeding and habitat management page cover pre-release pens, feeders and cover crops.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which pheasant should I choose for a driven shoot?
For driven shooting, we recommend our exclusive PUR CHASSE® bloodline, specially selected for its explosive takeoff and powerful, sustained flight. This pheasant offers exceptional quality game, suited to the demands of driven shooting thanks to its natural nervousness and ability to gain altitude quickly.
What is the difference between a common and a dark pheasant?
The dark pheasant is a melanistic variety of the common pheasant: dark plumage with a blue-green sheen, a heavy build comparable to the common bird, prized on driven shoots for how discreet it is in cover. Not to be confused with the Chinese-type pheasant, which is lighter and recognisable by its white neck ring. Each strain has its own detailed page on our site.
What is the price of a hunting pheasant?
The price of a hunting pheasant varies depending on the bloodline (PUR CHASSE®, French, Chinese), age and quantity ordered. GIBIS offers volume pricing. Consult our game catalogue or contact us directly for a quote tailored to your needs and territory size.
At what age should I release a hunting pheasant?
Pheasants are available from 14 weeks, the age at which they have developed their full plumage and flight musculature. For a shooting release of adult birds, allow at least 3 to 4 weeks before the season opening for acclimatisation; for summer restocking with young poults, release takes place much earlier, 6 to 12 weeks before the opening.
Which pheasant breeds are available from GIBIS?
GIBIS offers four types of pheasant: the PUR CHASSE® pheasant (exclusive hunting bloodline), the French pheasant (robust and versatile French bloodline), the Chinese-type pheasant (livelier, faster flight) and the dark pheasant (dark plumage, lively behaviour). Each bloodline has its own characteristics in terms of flight, hardiness and behaviour.
Where can I buy hunting pheasants in France?
GIBIS is a pheasant breeder based in Isère (Rhône-Alpes) that delivers across France. You can buy hunting pheasants directly from our farm by contacting us by phone on 04 76 38 31 01 or by email. We deliver your live pheasants in our equipped vehicles, with a live arrival guarantee and health certificates.
How do I raise breeding pheasants?
Breeding pheasant husbandry requires spacious aviaries (minimum 10 m² per pair), a diet rich in protein and insects, and rigorous health monitoring. GIBIS supplies selected breeding pairs based on morphology, plumage and behaviour criteria. Contact us to find out about our breeding pheasant availability.
Do you deliver pheasants to Brittany, Normandy and northern France?
Yes, GIBIS delivers pheasants across all of France, including Brittany, Normandy, Hauts-de-France (Nord/Picardie), Centre-Val de Loire, Nouvelle-Aquitaine and all other regions. Our specialist vehicle fleet ensures optimal transport conditions regardless of distance.
Do you deliver pheasants to Belgium or Switzerland?
Yes, GIBIS regularly delivers pheasants to Belgium and Switzerland by road in its own equipped vehicles. Belgium and Luxembourg being in the EU, there are no customs formalities. For Switzerland, GIBIS handles the health certificates and customs documentation. Contact us for a quote including international transport.
Do you sell breeding pheasant hens?
Yes, occasionally. Breeding pheasant hens are not part of our regular catalogue: their availability depends on the season and on the needs of our own breeding stock. The price is set on request, according to the strain and the quantity. Contact GIBIS by telephone on 04 76 38 31 01 or by e-mail to find out what is currently available.
How much does a pheasant cost?
The price of a live game pheasant at GIBIS ranges from 11.60 € for a 14-week poult to 19.00 € for an adult FAISAN PUR CHASSE®, with discounts based on quantity; an adult common pheasant ready for release is 14.90 € each. These prices are for live farm-reared birds intended for hunting and restocking, delivered throughout France. Quotes at 04 76 38 31 01 or by e-mail.
Where can I find pheasants?
GIBIS has been breeding and selling live pheasants in Chatte, in the Isère (Rhône-Alpes), since 1951, and delivers throughout France as well as to Belgium, Switzerland and for export. To find hunting or restocking pheasants, call the farm at 04 76 38 31 01 or write to us: live birds are delivered in our specially fitted vehicles, with a live-arrival guarantee and health certificates.
Can I keep a pheasant at home?
Yes, under certain conditions. Keeping pheasants is unrestricted below 100 birds held for non-commercial purposes; beyond that, or for sale, the operation must be registered and comply with biosecurity measures. Every keeper must declare their birds to the authorities (DDPP). GIBIS supplies farm-reared pheasants with health certificates; check with your DDT(M)/DDPP before setting up an aviary.
Is there a minimum order for pheasants?
No, there is no imposed minimum order: we serve an individual coming to collect a few birds at the farm just as readily as a hunting association ordering 300 poults. In practice, delivery to your ground only becomes worthwhile from a few dozen birds upwards, or by joining a round already scheduled in your area; below that, collection at Chatte is the most economical solution. Volume discounts start to apply from 50 birds.
How long does it take to receive pheasants?
Allow at least three to four weeks between the order and the release for adult pheasants ready to be shot, and longer for large opening-day volumes or for the PUR CHASSE® strain, which is produced in limited numbers. Poults for summer releases are booked in the spring, before the end of May, for delivery from June to August. Batches go out in booking order: the earlier you call 04 76 38 31 01, the more choice you have of strain, age and date.
Can I collect my pheasants directly from the farm at Chatte?
Yes. Collection takes place at the farm, 249 route de Lyon, 38160 Chatte, in the Isère, Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and by appointment — the birds are prepared in advance. Catalogue prices are ex-farm, so you save the transport cost. Bring a ventilated vehicle and crates suitable for live birds; we can lend you ours, against a deposit and to be returned. Otherwise we deliver throughout France in our fitted vehicles, carriage extra.
Is a deposit required to book pheasants?
Yes: an order is registered on receipt of your written instruction — by post or e-mail — together with a deposit of 30 % of the gross amount, as set out in our terms and conditions of sale. It is that deposit that secures your birds, the age class requested and your delivery slot; the balance is settled on delivery or collection. The quotation itself is free and without obligation: call 04 76 38 31 01 or write to gibis@gibis.fr.
How much does a whole pheasant cost?
Two different markets need to be distinguished. The "whole pheasant" from the poulterer or butcher is a slaughtered, oven-ready bird whose price (often 12 to 20 € each) belongs to the food trade. GIBIS does not sell game for consumption: we breed live pheasants for hunting and restocking, from 11.60 € to 19.00 € each depending on the strain and age. For a live game pheasant, see our prices above or request a quote at 04 76 38 31 01.
