FAISAN PUR CHASSE®: our exclusive game pheasant strain

Natural breeding in aviaries, rearing in large planted aviaries, flushing work with pointing dogs: the result of several decades of selection, for hunters who want a pheasant that flies.

The GIBIS strain trademark

What is the FAISAN PUR CHASSE®?

The FAISAN PUR CHASSE® is the exclusive game pheasant strain developed by GIBIS, a game breeder in Chatte (Isère) since 1951. It is a registered trademark: it guarantees a bird resulting from several decades of rigorous genetic selection, driven by one simple criterion — to produce a pheasant that behaves like a wild pheasant. Unlike intensively reared pheasants, the FAISAN PUR CHASSE® comes from entirely natural breeding in aviaries: natural pairing, natural brooding, no artificial insemination and no mechanical incubation. Reared thereafter in large planted aviaries of over 10 000 m², it develops from the earliest age the reflexes that make the difference in the field: fast flush, sustained flight and the ability to seek cover.

Natural breeding, with nothing artificial

The hardiness of a strain begins with breeding. At GIBIS, FAISAN PUR CHASSE® breeding stock pair and brood naturally in aviaries: parental behaviour is preserved, generation after generation. It is this choice — more demanding than large-scale mechanical incubation — that keeps in our birds the alertness and instinct characteristic of wild game.

Natural pairing
No artificial insemination: pairs form naturally in the aviary.
Natural brooding
No mechanical incubation: parental behaviour is preserved in every generation.
Decades of selection
Genetic work pursued over decades to fix the flush, the flight and the wary behaviour.

Reared as if in the field

A game pheasant cannot be made in a cage. Our birds grow up in large planted aviaries of over one hectare, with dense vegetation cover, where they build their flight muscle and learn to hide — the very habitat they will find again at release.

Volières plantées de plus de 10 000 m²

Large planted aviaries with dense natural cover: the bird flies, perches and seeks cover from the earliest age.

Insectes et céréales de l'exploitation

Rich, natural feed: live insects and cereals grown on the GIBIS farm at Chatte.

Effarouchement par chiens d'arrêt

Regular passes by trained pointing dogs: the flight instinct and the alertness of wild game develop before release.

Sélection sur le vol

Selected over several generations for an explosive flush and a fast, sustained, high flight.

In the field: the difference shows within seconds

The demonstration is regularly given to visitors to the game farm, as during the open day held with the Isère Departmental Hunters' Federation in July 2026: a pheasant from intensive rearing runs on the ground and lets you walk up to it; a FAISAN PUR CHASSE® takes wing the moment you enter the pen. Explosive flush, powerful flight that gains height, then cover: this is the pheasant sought after on driven days as much as on walked-up shooting. As shooting pheasants for the season — adults of 20 weeks minimum — as much as restocking poults released in summer at 12–16 weeks, the strain brings the same hardiness. That is also why it is chosen for estate restocking programmes: a bird that flies and escapes predators is a bird that settles.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the FAISAN PUR CHASSE®?
It is the exclusive game pheasant strain of the GIBIS game farm (Chatte, Isère), protected by a registered trademark. It is the result of several decades of genetic selection: natural breeding in aviaries — natural pairing and brooding — rearing in large planted aviaries of over 10 000 m², feeding on insects and cereals grown on the farm, and regular flushing work with pointing dogs.
How does it differ from a common farmed pheasant?
Behaviour. A pheasant from intensive rearing runs on the ground and lets you walk up to it; a FAISAN PUR CHASSE® takes wing the moment you enter the pen, with an explosive flush and a fast, sustained, high flight. That difference, regularly shown to visitors to the game farm, comes from the natural breeding method, the large planted aviaries and the flushing work with pointing dogs.
Is the FAISAN PUR CHASSE® a wild pheasant strain?
It is a farmed strain selected over decades to recover the behaviour of the wild pheasant: flight instinct, alertness, immediate flush, ability to seek cover. Natural breeding in aviaries preserves parental behaviour, and rearing in planted aviaries with dog flushing maintains those reflexes in every generation.
How much does a FAISAN PUR CHASSE® cost?
The 14-week PUR CHASSE® poult is 13,50 € each (+0,55 € for each additional week of age) and the adult pheasant of 20 weeks minimum is 19,00 € each. Prices decrease with quantity: contact us for a quotation suited to your estate.
Is it suitable for restocking, or only for shooting?
Both. As shooting birds, adults of 20 weeks minimum are delivered for the shooting season. For restocking, poults of 12 to 16 weeks released in summer go wild and establish themselves on the ground: it is precisely the hardiness of the strain — flight, escape from predators, seeking cover — that makes those releases succeed.
